Model A

*Model "A"* Pulled by tractor draw-bar, the Model A Sod Plug Planter is the backbone of the Fairway fleet of equipment. This piece will hold an entire pallet of sod slabs on its' rear deck and will plant a minimum of 1 and 1/2 acres of sod plugs per hour at an application rate of approximately four pallets per acre. An unusual and well received feature are the hydraulic wheels which can be lowered and raised to adjust roller pressure or for turning on the job.	Click here for a larger image.
The cutter head on this and all other Fairway plug planters have the same basic patented mechanism. The feeder is timed with the rotation of the cutter head so there will be no pulling apart or bunching up of the sod fed to the machine. The optimum ground pressure can be controlled by the operator to press the plugs into prepared soil.
The Model A pallet deck can be clearly seen in the photo to the right. This deck would normally hold an entire pallet (500 sq. ft.) of sod. The operator would place the sod on the belt deck, to his left, two sheets at a time and replace them from the pallet as they are drawn into the machine. The tractor operator controls the density of the plug coverage over the ground with a combination of ground and PTO speed as well as pressure on the roller with wheel hydraulics.
